WomxnConnect

Taylar Brooker

I am a spiritual, passionate, and ambitious womxn.

I have a love of writing and deep fascination with dreams and spirituality. This interest led me to publish my first book called Dreams from the Soul which was one of my biggest accomplishments. I love art, nature, and expressing my individuality which is why I decided to adorn my body in beautiful and colourful tattoos.

What's easy / difficult for womxn?

Although every womxn’s journey through life is different, I feel it is easier for womxn to connect with their spiritual energy. Our hormones, dreams and emotions are deeply influenced by the lunar and universal cycles. Also, I have found many womxn have the natural ability to multi-task and manage their time wisely, especially when under pressure!

As a 25yr old womxn, without a doubt the biggest difficulty I face and know many other womxn who feel the same is social media. The unrealistic expectations of what womxn need to physically look like to be considered attractive, is one of the leading causes of poor mental health and self-esteem in younger womxn.

The prejudicial opinion that womxn should not be career-driven or womxn should focus on finding a partner and having children before they get ‘too old’, I feel these obstinate statements create self-doubt, low self-esteem, and hold many womxn back from pursuing the creative endeavours and pathways they are passionate about.

How do you maintain mental fitness/emotional health?

Looking after myself mentally and emotionally has been a challenging journey for me over the past few years. Since beginning full-time study and working full-time from 2020 onwards, I have found it difficult to adequately attend to my mental health and emotional needs, which consequently led me to experience recurring periods of burn-out and emotional breakdowns. However, since I started incorporating more time for reading, socialising with my friends, and spending time in nature, I have noticed my mental and emotional health has improved positively.

What brings you joy and vitality?

Relaxing with my beautiful dogs, indulging on delicious food, spending the day at the beach, and seeing my loved ones happy and healthy.

How do you nurture your relationship with nature?

When I awaken in the morning, I always make the conscious effort to stand outside barefoot in nature for a couple of minutes. This simple practice helps me to ground my thoughts and body before I start my day. I also find it relaxing to watch the sunset every afternoon.

Where do you feel a sense of belonging/community?

I have a spiritual business page on Facebook and over the past two years, it has grown substantially. As a result, I have connected with an abundance of diverse beautiful womxn from all stages of life. I have formed many friendships and learnt so much from others as they share their story, struggles and accomplishments. Additionally, I feel deeply supported by my family and close friends as they have always encouraged me to follow my dreams and honour my authenticity and spiritual beliefs.

Where do you live/work?

I live on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, in the small town of Eumundi. I love living in this quiet and quaint town because I’m naturally introverted and prefer to surround myself with nature and simplicity rather than the busyness and noise of the city.

What ideas are you working on, or playing with, or just sitting with now?

After publishing my first book in December 2021, I feel drawn to writing another one! I am embracing creativity at the moment and have started writing down ideas for my new book which will focus on spirituality and wellbeing. I also feel called to create a self-love affirmation deck!

What matters most to you, either now or in the long term?

My long-term goal is to support, provide guidance, and encourage womxn to embrace life to the fullest. I plan to do this through my role as a psychotherapist, by writing books and providing spiritual readings within the family business Moonstone Gypsy . I feel my purpose in this lifetime is to help people connect more deeply with their spiritual nature, creative energy, and most importantly to help people realise that their diversity is what makes them unique and special.

CONNECTION

Being digital natives younger womxn have the additional societal pressure of being active on social media. The damaging mix of carefully curated images with invasive algorithms threatens the self worth of these women. The ray of hope is recognising the threat and making changes to our daily routines, reframing our reliance on and relationship to these platforms. Taylar's goal to encourage womxn to embrace the elemental value of self love serves a deep feminine need.

The trail-blazing black feminist, bell hooks, who died late last year, returned again and again in her writing to the significance of self-love to our self sufficiency.

"The one person who will never leave us, whom we will never lose, is ourself. Learning to love our female selves is where our search for love must begin."
