I am a discombobulated womxn.

I am interested in the ways art can have a positive impact on health with a focus on the calming and restorative benefits of nature. A deep concern for the rise of anxiety in our hyper-connected world, motivates my efforts to enrich society with the solace of natural patterns and rhythms. http://www.lisabehan.com/about

What's easy for womxn?

It's easy to slip under the radar at this stage of my life. This brings a sense of liberation.

What's difficult for womxn?

I am angry about the way society treats womxn so disrespectfully, yet expects womxn to be the social and emotional glue of society, to be the peacemakers, to be the volunteers, to be the carers, to be duty-bound to family. I am angry that society treats womxn as objects.

What brings you joy?

Laughing, dancing, reading, singing, art-making. I've come to believe that peace and joy come from within and have the ability to radiate outwards.

How do you nurture your relationship with nature?

Most days I take time to notice the sunrise and sunset, these daily natural phenomena work like a reset button. I believe in the calming and restorative benefits of nature, which is why I  walk the local forest tracks to restore my equilibrium.

Where do you feel a sense of belonging/community?

I have a network of close friends and family to support me. As a member of the Brisbane Threshold Singers I am nurtured by a group of wise, compassionate, practical women.

What are you working on?

WomxnConnect - a creative, welcoming place for women to share uplifting, respectful stories and find their sense of self, place, and belonging by immersing themselves in mindful, creative practices.

Mindsettle - works to calm patients in many clinical settings using a combination of tranquil natural video images and soothing soundscapes.

How do you maintain mental fitness?

I try to live in a way that maximises my physical and mental health. I exercise daily using a combination of walking and yoga. I practice the principles of mindfulness and meditate regularly.

I have been reading books since I was a teenager, it remains a great source of solace and a way for me to learn empathy by being curious about the different ways that people live their lives. Another way I nurture myself is through making art, the feeling of being in a flow state refreshes my soul.

Additionally, I have sought professional counselling to guide me through difficult times.

Where do you live/work?

Turball Jagera country, but my heart belongs to Quandamooka.

Connection

Being an introvert I avoid this kind of exposure but realised it is unfair to ask other womxn to share their stories if I won't do it. So now I expect the floodgates to open, send in your stories and encourage your family and friends to do the same. ;)
